An unforgettable stroll through the Lecce baroque architecture, along the roads in the centre, visiting the Cathedral, the Amphitheatre and the splendid Basilica of S. Croce. In the vicinity of Piazza S. Oronzo, Patron saint of the City, the local handcraft shops offer the visitors souvenirs made of papier maché, Lecce stone, wrought iron and terracotta.
GALLIPOLI – half day, 30 km.
One of the must charming towns on the Ionian coast, full of items bearing witness to the past and art treasures. Visit to the Church della Purità, to the Church of S. Francesco, to the Canneto Sanctuary and to the Basilica of S. Agata with its majestic seventeenth century façade.
S. MARIA DI LEUCA – half a day, 30 km.
The visit to the town includes a stop off at the Sanctuary “de Finibus Terrae”, a pilgrimage location in the month of July. Popular tradition says that this pilgrimage is a passport to enter Paradise. The excursion continues on to the Grotta del Diavolo and to “Ponte Ciolo”.
